I am Eillen Ruvarashe Mutiti. Before joining Uncommon.org, I had written my O Level exams at Manama High School in 2021. However, when the results came out, I couldn’t collect them because my father had recently lost his job. As a result, I stayed at home throughout 2021 and most of 2022, uncertain about my next steps.
At the end of 2022, I came across an opportunity to apply to Uncommon.org. It was a life-changing moment because it was a free program, and I didn’t need my O Level results to apply. When I received my acceptance letter, I was overjoyed and couldn’t wait to start the bootcamp.
The bootcamp was challenging, but I refused to give up. There were tough moments, but I pushed through. At Uncommon.org, I didn’t just gain technical skills , I grew as a person. I learned essential soft skills and developed my character. I was taught the importance of self-discipline, emotional intelligence, and making the most of every opportunity. I realized that no one should have to push me to take action; I needed to be accountable for my own growth.
Through Uncommon.org, I learned how to build websites and graduated as a front-end web developer. But my learning didn’t stop there. Now, I also understand robotics, and I can build WhatsApp chatbots. In fact, if someone asks me to do something I don’t know, I have the confidence to learn it, master it, and produce even better results than expected.
After graduating, I secured a job at Girls in STEM Trust. With my first earnings, I was finally able to collect my O Level results by myself, an achievement that meant so much to me.
Uncommon.org changed my life. Look at me now, I am on my way to becoming the Elon Musk of my generation!
Eillen's journey is a powerful reminder that resilience and determination can overcome any obstacle. Facing setbacks, she embraced the opportunity provided by Uncommon.org, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to her growth.
